Many barristers and advocates spend much of their working day alone. For some, that suits them – they like the independence and flexibility. For others, working alone can lead to feelings of isolation and it can be hard to seek support if you are struggling.
Join us for this special panel discussion that will bring together barristers and advocates to talk honestly about working alone and the effect it has on their mental health and wellbeing. We’ll also look at what individuals and the wider legal sector can do to reduce isolation and encourage healthier ways of working.
Wednesday 2 December 2026
5pm to 6pm
The webinar is open to barristers and advocates at any stage of their career.
The panel will look at:
- What does isolation look like for barristers and advocates, how does it affect day-to-day life, and how can isolation make existing pressures, such as financial stress or billing delays, harder to manage?
- How can you recognise when working alone and feeling isolated is starting to affect your mental health and wellbeing?
- What helps people stay connected when they spend much of their lives working alone.
- How can you set reasonable boundaries and switch off when you’re working independently?
- What can the legal sector do to reduce isolation and better support barristers and advocates who work alone?
The webinar will focus on the experiences of barristers and advocates, but there’ll be plenty that’s relevant to others across the legal sector too, particularly sole practitioners, people working in small practices and anyone who works independently. Everyone is welcome.
