This interactive session was delivered by Mary Jackson, a counsellor and former solicitor with significant experience in delivering training on this topic. Whilst touching on the basics of vicarious trauma this training was an opportunity for attendees to discuss and share their experiences of vicarious trauma in a supportive setting.
The training was relevant for anyone in the legal sector working with vulnerable clients or exposed to traumatic images or experiences such as in immigration, criminal, personal injury, clinical negligence or family work. It aimed to introduce and develop an understanding of the concept of vicarious trauma and its potential emotional impact, and to explore practical strategies to help reduce the risk and manage its effects.

- Identifying signs of vicarious trauma and warning indicators
- Understanding the personal and professional impact of vicarious trauma
- Practical self-care tips and strategies to mitigate risk
