Mark brings more than 30 years’ experience of working in the legal sector. His career has included managing a high street law firm, working in legal education and holding a senior leadership role within a professional membership body.
Much has changed since LawCare began supporting the legal sector. The charity is now looking ahead at how it can support more people and work with others to improve mental health and wellbeing across the sector.
Mark will lead LawCare as it continues to strengthen relationships across the legal sector and reach people who may not realise the charity is there for them. LawCare supports everyone working in law, in every role and at every stage of their career, across the UK, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man.
LawCare provides free, independent and confidential support from people with first-hand experience of working in the legal sector. Alongside this direct support, LawCare works across the sector to improve mental health and wellbeing through research, training and resources.
Mark Evans said:
“A huge amount has changed since I started my career in law more than 30 years ago. We talk much more openly about mental health and wellbeing now, but there’s still a lot to do. Working in law comes with pressures, but poor mental health shouldn’t simply be accepted as part of the job.”
“Being there when someone needs support will always be a big part of what LawCare does but my work in legal education showed me how important it is to listen and learn from each other, and helps us to understand where things need to change.”
“Together, we can make the change.”
Emma Williams, Chair of LawCare’s Board of Trustees, said:
“Mark’s extensive experience across the legal sector will be hugely valuable to LawCare and indeed to our ability to support the profession as a whole.”
“We are all so excited for Mark’s leadership to take us into the next phase as we build on our foundations. There is a lot of work for us to do and we’re looking forward to doing it together.”
“I am confident that Mark’s arrival will help us super charge our efforts and I am here for it all!”
Mark succeeds Elizabeth Rimmer, who stepped down as Chief Executive in June after more than 11 years with LawCare. Trish McLellan has served as Interim Chief Executive since June.
