More about Emma
We’re so lucky to have Emma on board. She’s one of the best-connected people in the legal sector (we’re fairly sure she knows everyone), and that really matters for the work we do at LawCare.
Here’s more from Emma:
Becoming Chair of LawCare has provided me with the perfect opportunity to bring the conversation about wellbeing and mental health in the legal sector to a broader audience. I am thrilled to be able to leverage my network and my voice for the ultimate benefit of the profession as a whole and am excited to see what we can achieve. The support of my network has seen me through some challenging times, and I want to extend that network as broadly as humanly possible.
Emma continues:
I first encountered LawCare through the work of its trustees, its champions and chief executive, the inimitable and hugely inspirational Elizabeth Rimmer, largely, it has to be said, through the power of LinkedIn. It became very apparent to me that pivotal to the work of LawCare in our profession was connection – authentic connection. This is hardly surprising given that human connection is central to the concept of wellbeing. Networking, professional connections, LinkedIn connections, social connections all contribute to fostering a sense of belonging and support. We can do more through connection and as a profession we thrive through connection – collectively and individually. As the wonderful Brene Brown puts it – connection gives purpose and meaning to our lives. And nowhere is that more apparent in the legal profession. We are, says Brene, hard wired to connect with others and that is essentially my role – to connect LawCare with the profession and to connect my many friends, colleagues and contemporaries, and those I have yet to meet (!) with the work of LawCare. It’s truly that simple and, I would suggest, where you can help LawCare in its work. Through the power of connection.
Emma concludes:
The industry has come a long way since LawCare took its first call back in 1997, but we can each do more. I believe that we can all to seek to change things for the better, for the future and sustainability of our profession. We can use our voice to speak up for mental health and use our unique privilege and experience collectively in a way which will achieve LawCare’s aims. Through the power of connection.I am living proof of how connection can change lives.
