Highlights from LawCare's menopause webinar
On 5 November 2024, we hosted a webinar on how workplaces can better support employees going through menopause. Speakers shared personal stories and practical steps companies can take to make a positive difference.
Our speakers were Lucie Allen, Sara Carnegie, Silvia van den Bruel, and Russell Johnstone.
Here are the key takeaways:
More research and awareness about menopause in the workplace is needed.
Menopause has the potential to impact the ability of women to work effectively, leading some to leave their jobs and so creating awareness is the biggest starting point.
Workplaces can put a wide range of measures in place to support their staff some suggestions included:
- making small, helpful changes like: providing sanitary products, offering black cardigans for unexpected situations, or placing water on meeting tables
- appointing a "menopause ally or allies"
- allowing flexible working arrangements
- providing resources such as a portal with information, a toolkit, training for leaders
- providing access to a dedicated health app for staff
- access to counselling services
- creating safe spaces to talk about menopause experiences
- holding webinars working to make it relevant to different audiences who may be affected by menopause in different ways
